The Corsair was the first single-engined fighter with a power output
of over 1,492KW (2,000 hp) and the first US plane to exceed 650 KM/h
(400 mph).This carrier borne and land-based single-seat fighter remained
in service with the US forces from 1943 until the Korean War.The last
F4U was supplied in 1952 and withdrawn from active service in December
1954.It remained in service with smaller air-forces,however,until the
end of 1960s.
